EyeRock: Art and Music at the 11th annual DPUMS

Make sure you take some time this weekend to checkout the best part of the UMS!

The Denver Post Underground Music Showcase (The UMS), Ink Lounge, and Black Cloud Workshop cordially invite you to attend the inaugural EyeRock: Art in Music show.

Taking place during the 11th annual UMS, EyeRock is designed to highlight and focus on the amazing visual art talents we have in the Denver area that help push and sculpt the music industry. EyeRock is an art show like none that Denver has seen before. It was conceived… to showcase works by local artists that have been featured extensively in the music scene regionally as well as nationally. It is our intent to showcase work from all aspects of the music related art fields including: screen printed posters, album layout, rock photography, printed materials, and merchandise design.

EyeRock: Art in Music show will be Friday, July 22nd through Sunday July 24th and will be centrally located at 227 Broadway in the heart of the UMS. Doors will be open to the general public each day. Each artist has been invited to create an official poster for the 11th annual UMS. These posters are the only official posters for the show this year and will be available on a first come first serve basis in very small editions with 100% of all sales going directly to the artists. We urge you to show up early to ensure you get your first pick of these unique pieces of memorabilia.

EyeRock will begin with an artist reception and opening, on Friday July 22nd from 6pm-8pm at 227 Broadway. This will be the first chance the public will have to view and buy works as well as meet and greet the artists. Additional hours of the show will be Saturday and Sunday July 23rd and 24th from 2pm-7pm. Please come out to support the artists who work so hard to enrich our thriving music scene.

While no wrist bands or access passes will be needed to view the show or purchase work, we encourage everyone to support the Denver Post Community Foundation by purchasing tickets to the UMS and enjoying the extensive offering of music, comedy and film. Shane Davis 1984-2011

We lost an important person in our small family this week. Shane Davis passed away after an accident at work, he was 27. Shane was at many if not all of our events and if you attend regularly there is a good chance you had the pleasure of sharing a laugh with him. Shane was eccentric, polite and very creative. We have lots of people ask us about putting their art in the gallery but when he asked there was no question we wanted to have his work on the wall. Shane left us way too early but his humor and originality will always be a part of our memories. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. Please stop in any time and share a memory about Shane.

Shane’s service will be on Friday, July 8th at 10:00 a.m. (viewing at 9:00) at Fairmount Cemetary – Alameda and Quebec

Black Book Gallery presents Philip Lumbang & Ernesto Yerena “Dead Relatives”

Join us on Saturday, July 9th from 4pm till 12am*
Free and open to the public
Artists will be in attendance

Denver, CO (June 22, 2011) – Second Saturday at Black Book Gallery in July will entail a visit by two artists from Southern California, Phil Lumbang and Ernesto Yerena Montejano.

Animals are our relatives. Dead Relatives is a special look at death, as a satire. Usually a taboo subject in many cultures, Mexican traditions revere death. Death is celebrated, it is humorous. The Day of the Dead (Dia De Los Muertos) patterns embodied by the endearing silhouettes of chosen animals set a cunning tone to the show. The styles of Ernesto Yerena and Philip Lumbang contrast and compliment. Whether the animal is mythological or culturally relevant, each animal carries a message that the artists would like for the audience to ponder. The dynamics of the artists collaboration result in striking imagery with two different styles working in perfect balance.

Enter the incredible world of Alex Pardee — inhabited by a disturbing menagerie of misfit monsters and improbable superheroes plucked from the very nightmares of childhood.

Because we had to re-schedule the signing we are offering the image below as a 5″x7″ print to the first 50 people to buy a book (Local pick-up only)

This newest collection expands upon his previous work, showcased in Awful Homesick, to bring us a broader picture of the extent of his twisted genius and the dark themes that run throughout his work. Yet, amongst the entrails and decapitations, the gaping maws of razor-sharp teeth, improbable appendages and suppurating fleshy masses, we discover a vein of goodness, of humanity.

Signed & Numbered Print – Edition of 100 – Exclusive to this signing!

We see children, calling for help as they languish encased in the see-through digestive chambers of horrific monsters, as evidence of either a loss or a craving for innocence. Wide eyes stare childlike as terrifying creatures lovingly clasp and support each other, providing comfort in their search for community — misfits in a world where only normalcy is rewarded. Prepare to be surprised! – Ginko Press
